Freeing the body – with Katrin Heuser and Fairlie Gibson
A real treat for your body, mind and spirit with two yoga sessions a day, the opportunity for nourishing treatments such as Thai Yoga Massage and Aroma Therapy, the most delicious fresh vegetarian food and the unspoilt beauty of nature at Suleyman’s Garden offering the perfect setting to unwind, relax and revitalise.
In the yoga classes we will work in an unhurried and playful way to explore how the release of tension, accessing deeper strength and creating space can develop a fabulous sense of freedom in the body. Our focus and our time are spent on the journey getting into the posture rather than the end posture. This approach is suitable for any age, shape, size, or degree of flexibility.
“Practice transforms us. We need to eat less…we become more beautiful, our faces change and our walk gains in elasticity. A different life begins and the body expresses a happiness never felt before.” (from ‘Awakening the Spine’ by Vanda Scaravelli)
Suleyman’s Garden has a deep energy of aliveness running through it. Everywhere you look, vegetables and fruits are ripening and flowers blossoming. We practice yoga in a beautiful shala overlooking the sea, and when you turn into a twist you look into a field of cheekily green peppers and lusciously plump aubergines.
The rest of the day is free to relax, enjoy the pool or a swim in the sea, chill at the beach, lie in the hammock all day, go walking in the shade of the pine forest or along the dramatic coastline.
Possible other activities
- On one of the days there will be no yoga, so we can either take a boat trip to a wonderful and completely secluded spring water beach and eat fresh fish, or go up into the mountains by open jeep to visit very impressive and anient ruins (day trip is optional and costs approx. £45 per person).
- In addition to the aromatherapy and Thai Massage, we can also ask the resident massage thereapist Merve to join us. She offers deep tissue and trigger point therapy.
- If there is demand, a lady from the local village will come to offer rejuvenating facials (includes steaming over boiling hearbs from the garden, a handmade clay mask, and massage with rose water).
- A night out in the market of Fethiye for dinner, some great shopping, a traditional Turkish bath if you want, and soaking up the atmosphere.
- Paragliding in Oludeniz coming down over the famous blue lagoon.
“Fairlie’s classes exceeded my expectations in challenging my habitual ways of thinking and practicing and I’ve come away inspired. Kat’s teaching is very mindful and draws on a great breadth of yoga experiences and teachings.”
“Now that the sights, sounds, whiffs and delicious tastes of that very lovely off the beaten track part of Turkey have started to subside the cosmic feel good factor remains…and I’m not talking about the aftereffects of the stiff Pimms and lemonade that I’ve just downed. What a lovely experience to have had – meeting everyone and being there in such a haven of Suleyman’s Gardens.”
“I honestly can’t recall a holiday that’s had so much internal push and pull and emotional connection as this one ….I still feel like I’m processing all kinds of stuff….in a good way.”
“I had never been on a yoga retreat before and when my daughter suggested it I was a bit unsure. But it was amazing! The classes with Kat and Fairlie were very enjoyable and informative. Suleyman’s Garden is an idyllic place, so peaceful and that was very therapeutic too. Between classes we enjoyed the pool, walked along the nearby forest track and down to the rocky beach. A really lovely break.”
“I’ve enjoyed several yoga holidays, but Suleyman’s is now definitely one of my favourite. The combination of this wonderful family and our host Ian, who created this magical place with deep respect for the land and its customs and the yoga classes from both Katrin and Fairly couldn’t have been better. It all worked together fabulously. I was new to Scaravelli inspired yoga and I felt indeed inspired by both teachers and am still implementing things I’ve learned in my own practice. And all the colours of the land, the sea. the massages, the food, and ah! the taste of the food! The whole week was a true adventure for the senses and a deeply nourishing one.”
Suleyman’s Garden is run by the same team as the renowned Huzur Vadisi retreat. It is in a stunning location overlooking the Mediterranean sea and islands, with swimming from a rocky cove less than ten minutes walk away. It is also not far from lovely Kabak beach, a short drive away, or an hour’s walk along a beautiful coastal path in the shade of the pine forest. Situated in a very unspoiled area, on what is known as the ‘Lycian Way’, there are wonderful trails for walking on the dramatic and mountainous coastline.
Despite being secluded, Suleyman’s Garden is also only a fifteen-minute minibus or taxi ride to the resort of Olu Deniz, with arguably Turkey’s most famous beach, plenty of restaurants and shopping.
Suleyman’s Garden itself is a very charming, small, traditional farm with terraced vegetable fields, orchards and beautiful gardens, and stunning sea views.
There is a mix of different types of accommodation available. Some simple, comfortable wooden cabins with balconies, shaded by vines and flowers, are dotted around the garden (some with sea view) . In addition, there are a few small traditional earth and stone houses. For more comfort, there are also larger, airy en-suite rooms on the upper level near the farmhouse, pool and shala.
The wooden floored and shaded yoga shala is set amid the vegetable gardens and fruit trees, with lovely sea views. The shala is fully equipped with mats, belts, blocks, bolsters and blankets.
The local owners grow all their own organic vegetables and fruit for the kitchen to make the truly delicious meals. It is the food as much as the location, as well as the hospitality of Suleyman and his family, that make this the perfect place to relax and find some peace.
There is a complimentary tea and coffee table, also with a selection of herb teas and biscuits, which is freely available to help yourself throughout the day.
